It seems as if the iPhone has won the hearts of most major brands. Tomorrow I am giving a presentation to hundreds of IT-professionals in the Netherlands. As preparation I went through some of the largest Dutch brands and checked what they were up to.

The screenshots below tell a convincing story. At least, it gives a very clear picture of what is going on. These are my conclusions:

  • Many major brands have decided to extend their product/service to mobile phones through apps.
  • The visitor of the company’s web site is made aware of the existence of the app, on the web site.
  • The app functionality and content is often just a subset of the functionality and content of the web site.
  • Branding is a key ingredient in the app strategy.
  • … and finally, most major brands that provides any mobile extension of product or service has chosen the iPhone.

You won’t see a Blackberry, Symbian, Windows Phone or even an Android screen shot on these sites. The iPhone rules major brands.
