Likes and dislikes with traveling
I’ve been doing a lot of traveling in my twenty years in the IT-industry. In the past couple of years, traveling has picked up and i’m often on the road. These are my likes and dislikes. I’ll add stuff to the list as travel continues…
I dislike taxi drivers that:
- are reckless (speeding and using cell phones)
- keep radio tuned in on talk shows in foreign language (loud)
- do not accepting credit cards
I dislike removing my belt and putting deodorant in small plastic bag at airport security.
I dislike flying when:
- pilot says “moderate” or “heavy” turbulence ahead.
- having aisle seat when neighboring passenger have to go, all the time
- they serve “food”
I dislike the hotel that:
- puts me up in fake non smoking rooms (a sign doesn’t get rid of that smell)
- charges me outrageously for a poor internet connection
- doesn’t have working batteries in the TV remote control
- has had the same pillow in use for more than ten years
- has showers with their own minds on when to go from hot to cold, or vice versa
I dislike mobile network operators. Period. Shame on all of you for crazy roaming costs.
I dislike being away from my kids.
On the other hand.
I like traveling because I get to meet interesting people.
I like airports:
- when being able to use priority lanes at check in, security check and boarding (
- ’cause of the atmosphere at the airport (after security check)
- when having a nice cup of coffee at the gate
I like flying when:
- the scenery below blows my mind
- we get hot handtowels at the end of a flight
I like the cold coke and hot burger in the hotel bar, in front of TV sports
I like getting into routines like:
- boarding pass always in left back pocket
- always empty all pockets on desk when first coming into hotel room
- eat same breakfast as when not traveling
I like the hugs from my kids when coming back.
